Living Room Make-over

Sometimes it is interesting to see what a room looked like before it was modified. In the case of this Broomfield house the difference is literally like night and day.

Design is an integral part of the service The Master Carpenter provides. A good design will open up a room’s potential. They added a brightly polished floor and extra lights in the ceiling. The total effect is dazzling. The room now glows with bright colors and warm memories.

My original sketch for this project. Fancy woodwork is a collaboration between home owner and craftsman. It takes a bit of time to get it right. The Master Carpenter custom designs all its own installations.

As you can see, the room was dark and poorly lit. Both husband and wife are educators, teaching at the high school and community college levels. I used their ideas as the basis for my design and we continued to modify the design, even during installation.

I ask potential customers to collect pictures of what they like, so that I can tap into their sense of what is beautiful and incorporate their ideas into the final design. Collaborative design can take a project in surprising directions.

In this case, the owner had a large collection of Disneyland memorabilia which she wanted to display, along with family pictures, plants, and art objects.

My job included preparing the hearth and fireplace surround for tile. The owner installed the tile and did a beautiful job.

Painting is an integral part of fancy woodwork, producing an essential play of light and shadow. The final finish on an installation like this is always a cut above ordinary painting.
